BACHELOR'S LEVEL FACILITATOR

Our Bachelor's Level Facilitators are a vital part of what we do. They are responsible for running groups under the supervision of a Master's Level Clinician. This is a great position for someone working to attain their master's degree in social work and is a natural steppingstone to becoming a Master's Level Clinician. These are often part time, sometimes very part-time positions but can grow based on flexibility. As you become more skilled in our process, additional hours may be available. A bachelor's in professional counseling, social work or psychology or another clinical oriented major is preferred.

Fulltime staff are eligible for our 401K, vacation and sick time. We also provide supervision free of charge for those pursuing licensure. Unfortunately, at this time, we do not offer any healthcare options. INTERNSHIP | SHADOWING | OBSERVATION

Many of our staff got their first taste of what we do with an internship. Others find a day of shadowing or observation beneficial for testing the waters of what life is like with our client population. This work is not for everyone. Some find it very rewarding and surprising how quickly previously held beliefs are replaced with a renewed sense of hope and optimism for many of our clients. The opportunity to become a transforming force within someone's life is often the greatest reward. Come check us out and dispel some of those myths that you may have heard about people who sexually offend.

Everybody starts somewhere! People often love the nature of this work or hate it. This is one of the reasons that we offer these options to potential staff. Our internships are unpaid, but there is no charge for supervision. Many of our interns return to become paid staff. We accept both Bachelor's Level and Master's Level interns. We have  a good relationship with most of the schools in the area and our owner and program director is a professor at Pennwest University. We can accommodate interns in most of our offices. Please contact us as soon as possible before your term for the best chance of getting an opening. We tend to limit the number of interns so that each intern gets the attention and opportunities that are available without disrupting the therapeutic process. We generally only allow one shadow or observation at a time so that we are available to answer questions. This can be a good way to "try before you apply" a position at PPOL to see if it "feels right" for you. All interns, "shadowers" and observers must sign a confidentiality agreement.

CURRENT OPENINGS

So what type of clients do you see at Project Point of Light? The short answer is "All Types". Yes, we specialize in sexually dysfunctional behaviors and the impact of sexual abuse, but the individuals that we see come from all walks of life. Our largest client population is our offenders, but here too, they vary in many ways. Some have offenses from long ago while others are much more recent. Some have non-contact offenses such as watching child pornography, to much more serious offenses that got them labeled with the Sexually Violent Predator label. Some were abused themselves while others were not. No two are the same. We try to avoid the language and the stigma that comes with this label. The stereotype of a "Sex Offender" has most people conjuring images of pedophiles looking to steal children out of neighborhood yards. Here, these are not sex offenders as much as they are people with sexual offenses. They are judged by society for the worst thing they may have ever done. We are here to be compassionate toward them while still holding them accountable for their past behavior. There are those that will say that "Sex offenders can't be cured" however, the reality is that sex offenders have one of the lowest recidivism rates of any type of crime. Far lower than theft and even murder! There are certainly different kinds of offenders. We deal mainly with what are referred to as "Opportunistic Offenders" meaning that they were placed in a situation where they made a choice to act out sexually. These are not what your favorite TV shows display. You can't profile an opportunistic offender. They don't have a "type". They are generally not serial in that they either offend once or they have one victim, unless the opportunity represents its self. In working with this population we have to see the person, often broken and hurting from the choices that they have made. They have served their time, but the stigma of being a sexual offender is never very far off. It can be hard to hear what happened from their perspective. Even more so when we have heard stories from the victim side of things. It isn't easy, but it is important. If you made it this far, maybe it is a challenge that you are up to.
